What should go in the blank space?

These types of posts never get much of a response, but I’ll give it a go anyway. You might see that I’ve added a new little menu near the top of the page. If you open it you’ll see that’s where I’ve put the comments stuff which I thought was beginning to look out of place next to the Last.fm / Flickr / LiveJournal stuff.

But now there is a problem — the left-most section is blank. I’ve got a few ideas for what I could fill the space with, but I’m not fully convinced by any of them. The thing is, they are all features which have been on the front page in the past, but I removed them because I thought they were useless!

  • Calendar
  • List of archives (or a cloud)
  • List of categories (or a cloud)
  • Tag cloud
  • List of most popular posts (some of those should have as little publicity as possible to be honest)
  • List of most commented-on posts (some of those should have as little publicity as possible to be honest)
  • Link to RSS feeds, contact details, etc.
  • ‘About me’ blurb (a post might come about this later)

Most of those now either have their own page or have been lumped into the dumping ground known as the archives and stats page.

So, does anybody have any opinions on it, or do you have a completely different idea? Also, do you think the Last.fm / Flickr / LiveJournal section should be hidden underneath a toggle menu as well?
