When she made it, I wrote this on Twitter:
I hope someone uploads Pauline McNeill’s victory “speech” on to YouTube. That was frightening. It belongs more in a horror movie
And it has been uploaded to YouTube!
It seems to start off quite normally. But after a few sentences you can hear her start to rant away underneath Glen Campbell’s spiel about the numbers. Then, just as the volume is turned up she reaches her maximum level mad-screamy-ranting.
Harping on and on about absolutely nothing — the usual string of Labour slogans. Then she tops it off by raising her arms like a victorious boxer at the end. I think Glen Campbell was a bit polite when he described it as “letting off some steam”.
Bear in mind that this was only the second declaration of the night, just after Jack McConnell’s seat. So most viewers of the election coverage saw her Howard Dean moment. I wonder if some of her voters were unable to look themselves in the mirror that evening.
Via not the record, who points out that this is precisely how not to win.
