This is from today’s Le Mans Series race at Le Castellet. Is this one of the biggest failures of race organisation possible?
The safety car doesn’t peel in. Yellow flags continue to wave. Yet the green lights switch on to signal the start of the race. Chaos ensues.
As many have pointed out, it is reminiscent of the ridiculous crash in the World Touring Car Championship at Pau a couple of years ago, when the safety car came out — but too late for the race leader to know.

Reminds me of the start line chaos which killed Ronnie Peterson in Monza. They didn’t wait for the cars to line up in their grid slots before giving the green light that time causing chaos in the mid-field :

Yes, it is just about the biggest failure of organisation possible. Rumour has it that all GTE teams will be allowed to ignore one of their results this year in order to stave off potential rebellion among the Porsche teams (which were disproportionately affected by the communications failure).

Quite right Alianora. I haven’t been following this story closely, but I really am not surprised that the Porsche teams are angry due to so much damage being caused through no fault of their own. What a shambles.
