A great race for sure, but a poor champion. He built his championship on the first five races, dominated by means of a “suspicious” diffuser only to stroll for the rest of the championship. It is true that his race at Interlagos was brilliant, but for me it doesn’t hide the fact that Button does not deserve the same treatment as First-Class Champions, such as Hamilton or Villeneuve (also one-time winners). I rather regard Button as a good pilot who had the luck of being in the right place at the right time, joining the ranks of Damon Hill or Keke Rosberg.
I am saying this because I feel that this season was spoilt by the “diffusergate”, which prevented a true and disputed competition.
Nevertheless, hats off for Button, Barrichello and Brawn.

And it was funny how the BBC coverage felt so rote and awkward… Right up until the cars left the start line. And then it was golden.

(After having read so much about Daniela Mercury in Paglia’s Salon columns, it was a shame that the audio dropped out.)

Remarkable race. Maybe it’s the skinny old track, maybe it’s the wet quali…

But I maintain that the secret to good racing with lots of fascinating overtakes is to put slower cars in front of faster ones. Works every time!

You are right, Jenson drove fantastically at Brazil. Perhaps if he’d driven like that a bit more often during the season (and the rest of his career, but I digress) people would not be questioning his worth as a champion. Afterall, a WDC is not made on the strength of one drive alone…

While I am pleased for him & Brawn, I still can’t say I am happy to see his name entered for ever in the history books as 2009 WDC. I just don’t see him as worthy of the position, sorry.

And how about Webber ! His win got swallowed up in all the Button-hype but what a drive. In fact, what a race ! THAT is how a grand prix should be. More of that & less of the processions please, and we’ll all be happy.
