I'll be interested to read a handful of the inevitable avalanche of books which will be written about this election, to see whether anyone accurately pins down exactly why so many people have engaged. Is it raging against the current administration, or Obama's (or Palin's) rhetoric, or the fact that both candidates have thrown so much money at their media campaigns. Or maybe it's the media itself - after all, most of us were still struggling on dial-up 8 years ago; to be able to watch a live video stream of a rally, whilst Twittering your opinions via text was but a pipe dream.

Whatever it is, it can only be good news - for all the reasons you mentioned.
