I thought Vettel was just terrific. He had the pace but the way he didn’t fail under pressure reminds me of another German!
I think Ferrari – Vettel would be a winning combination even now, god knows why they extended Kimi’s contract, he looks so demotivated! I think there are a few great talents in F1, and Vettel is undoubtedly one of them. I just can’t imagine Hamilton driving a Torro Rosso and winning a race.

Great article Vee.

I have met Der Seb twice, and can confirm that he is a throughly nice guy. As much as I admire a drivers skill etc, I tend to follow those who I think are the nicest people (prolly the reason why I never followed Schuey) and like to see those who I think are ‘deserving’ of a win to triumph.

Plus, it’s always better when its the underdog

I do not agree that the McLaren was a “vastly superior” car yesterday. In the hands of both Vettel and the unfortunate Bourdais the Torro Rosso was the class of the field.

The dry set-up which Vettel (and I think Hamilton) chose gave an additional straight-line speed advantage.

Adrian Newey strikes again! I’ve always believed that he was Michael Schumacher’s greatest adversary, as Newey’s cars, first at Williams, then McLaren, challenged Schumi for his entire career. Quite astonishing, really.

And with Schumi long gone and his German protege in one of his cars, Newey must be rubbing his hands with glee.

Great article Vee! A fully deserved win for Toro Rosso/Minardi and Vettel.

Looking to the last few races, it confirms that an Adrian Newey’s chassis + powerful engine + lots of driver talent is an infallible formula for the victory…

Red Bull should change to Ferrari/Mercedes power next year…

Vettel has shown the great mistake of Ferrari: signing Massa and Raikkonen two more years.
I think that Vettel’s victory is an achievement only comparable to Rosberg’s pole in his first GP.

With Vettel being so likeable, hopefully he will only stay at RBR for one or two seasons as he his perhaps exactly what Ferrari need to reverse the trend of them being everyone’s favourite team to hate!

Plus the German/Italian anthem combo just feels right to me – or perhaps it’s just because we’ve heard it so often.

Brilliant article, Vee. But I remember Michael Schumacher being ‘a lanky, gangly, goofy-looking kid’ back in Spa 1992!

Nonetheless, a well-written article, I loved this part in particular:

‘This is why we watch motor racing. These people do it for the love of the sport. Instead of dreaming of working for Ferrari, these guys dreamt of becoming Ferrari. And they were never deterred.’
