The reason 6 Music isn't BBC Radio 6 though isn't just to emphasize its digital-onlyness, but also the idea of being a cross-platform brand (radio station, website, etc). If it renames to BBC Radio 6 then the website goes from being an integral part of the 6Music offering to just the website of a radio station - very much an old media strategy...

I think the logos are intended for the website and suchlike Clive!

The radio stations' logos are also used for things like the Radio Times, promos on the television (eg. "ch-ch-check out the Proms on BBC Radio 3", things like that) and for that screen that comes up when you listen to the radio on digital television!

I actually like the new 4 logo, better than the current 3-d thing. As for the rest? There are other radio stations? Oh, ok, guess they serve a purpose for others. Carry on...

I'm definitely with you on liking old logos. In fact, I think logos should be good enough not to be changed every few years. Brand recognition, that's what it's about - why start again from scratch having finally got the customer to recognise you?

As an example, everyone knows the Ford blue oval badge, but few realise that they dumped it it for a couple of decades around about the sixties and seventies (I guess they thought it looked a bit old fashioned). All the hip and fancy stuff they tried in that period failed to achieve the instant recognition of the blue oval, however, and they had to go back to it in the end.

The lesson? It doesn't matter whether logos are trendy, hip or even hopelessly out of date - all that matters is that people know what it means immediately. ;)

I think the logos are intended for the website and suchlike Clive!

I rather like the new logos, though I liked the old ones too - not one for change much me... I do agree that 6, 7 etc should all be called BBC Radio Whatever to help distinguish between the TV and radio channels though as no doubt the numbers of each will continue to grow as time goes on.

Just glad they didn't get the Olympic designers to do these!

They have logos for radio stations? Pardon my ignorance, but isn't that a bit like the old joke about the radio ventriloquist? Maybe I'm missing something here...
