I have not taken a photograph in ages. This is because I decided, quite wisely, that I am a shit photographer. However, even the crappest of photographers will luck in eventually if they point and click often enough, and so it turns out that one of my photographs has been included in the latest edition of the Schmap Glasgow Guide.

I have to confess to not having heard of Schmap before being included. But it seems pretty cool. It seems to be an online travel guide with helpful maps and photographs taken from Flickr. It’s funny to think of one of my photographs being included here, because there are some really awesome photographs among the selection.

The photograph of mine that has been included was one of the ones I took of House for an Art Lover, which I highly recommend visiting.

I got a few included in the Schmap guides, also. One for San Francisco and one for Berkeley, California.

I’m not a great photographer, either, though I occasionally get something reasonable or interesting. The funny thing about the Schmap photos is that I didn’t feel either of the photos that got included were even really anything I thought was among the better things I’ve taken.

I attribute my inclusion (at least) to a few things:

    1. My photos that were included were tagged and had descriptions of where the photo was taken so they could find it easily.

    2. They were marked as “Creative Commons” for rights.

    3. They were spots that were less photographed to death than some other places (a bar in Berkeley and The Cliff House in San Francisco) but gave some flavor of the area.

I was really surprised cause one of the photos was taken with a camera phone and wasn’t even the best quality.

But hey, it is nice anyway and cool to have it included.
