It's a beta, now quit yer whining.

Even the FSF, whoever they are, are getting in on the whining...

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2007/08/02/fsf_bbc_protest/

I expect that if the beta goes well, cross platform support will happen.

If people want to complain about the BBC, go to America, and watch the crap they get. Warts and all, the BBC ain't that bad.

Three million quid to write a lousy media player? And one that's not even cross-platform? Why didn't they just license Shockwave? Thirty thousand license fees on a white elephant. It's emblematic of public sector IT provision. To put it in perspective, $6 million is the sort of budget a blockbuster video game will entail. And those get released on time and working. We need a revolution.

I'm not convinced this is as bad as people are making out. Looking at the technical details of the system implies it will require that infrastructure, and sadly business requirements have driven the technical details.

I was quite looking forward to this being launched, especially as I was invited to try it out a few months ago - but as you found out too, I was rebuffed as I'm now using Vista which was disappointing.

With ITV about to relaunch their website to allow you to watch programmes online, it will be interesting to see if they are a step ahead of the Beeb or still a step behind as until now I've always found the BBC's online and interactive services pretty good.
