Eight random facts (a meme)

5 July 2007 20:49

Oh bum. I’ve been tagged.

I now have to post “eight random facts/habits” about myself.

  1. I find having a conversation a stressful chore but I quite like talking to a large group of people
  2. Despite the fact that I love Formula 1, I have next to no interest in cars or driving
  3. I have a fear of answering the phone
  4. I have difficulty waking up. I also have difficulty falling asleep. This means that, if I have nothing to do, I end up waking up later and later every day. I have been known to go all the way around the clock.
  5. I do not have any ambitions
  6. I much prefer spending an evening in by myself rather than going out with a large group of friends
  7. I recently discovered that I am probably intolerant to cow’s milk
  8. I currently have a problem with my jaw which means that I can’t open my mouth wide. This makes eating difficult

I won’t tag anyone — unless someone wants to take it for themselves.

Proper blogging will return soon.

Re: 3,4,6,7,8 – are you me?!

Seriously, though, the sleep thing sounds like a form of a free-running sleep pattern. Left to its own devices, the body wouldn’t adopt a 24 hour pattern however, by a quirk of nature, that’s the day length it gets (most bodies would instead default to around 27 hours, apparently).

I had really severe problems with this for a number of years (I have ME, so it’s a symptom of that for me) where I could be awake for days in a row and never woke up or fell asleep at the same time for two days running. I saw a bunch of specialists, but the only thing that has ever worked for me (sleeping pills, even tranquilisers, don’t work – my body can override them, apparently!) has been Melatonin, which you can’t *technically* get in the UK, but can buy online: http://www.biovea.net/product_list.asp?CID=7 It might be worth a try for you. On top of that, make sure you get some natural light every day.

Also, for #8: it sounds like some form of TMJ – http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Temporomandibular_joint_disorder Go to the dentist, make sure there’s nothing else causing the problem, and if they can’t find anything have them make up a fitted gum shield protectory thing (hey, I’m not a dentist, I don’t know the technical term!) for you to wear at night. It’s uncomfortable, but it really helps.

I’m not sure about that thing. My pet theory is that it is just growing or something. It used to be the other side of my jaw. It was like that for months, then just went away overnight. Now, a few months on, it’s the other side of my jaw! So I think it might just be something for me to live with for a couple of months.
