Surely this only caused controversy because it was a British (for British, read English of course - I'm a long-time, tortured, DC fan) driver who "lost out"?

If it concerned drivers of any other nationalities, I doubt whether the Brit media would've been so worked up. They're crazily delirious as they have someone other than Jenson Button to fawn over...

Well said! Monaco was not embarrassing for F1 (unlike Austria '02), it is a simple fact of the sport that cars should/will back off in situations such as those on Sunday. How many times did Schumacher build up a lead of a minute, come out the pits for the final time and coast to the chequered flag?

Many times in my F1-supporting/viewing career, I have been ashamed at the British media for things like this. It really annoys me that the media has lashed out at McLaren for this. If it wasn't for Ron Dennis taking a big risk, Lewis would still be testing the MP4-22 and competing in GP2. If it wasn't for Alonso, De La Rosa and Paffett working tirelessly on developing the new car, Lewis wouldn't be in the great position he is in at the moment. (Not taking anything away from the kid, but he is the least experienced driver in the team in terms of testing.)

And as you so correctly point out, if the media gets its way and McLaren are punished, it will only hurt Lewis more than it will help him.
