[...] Many blog-inches have been spent commenting on the Liberal Democrats lately, not least because two bloggers have tried to stake some claim to Mark Oaten’s scalp, much to the annoyance of many of their comrades. [...]

Mark Oaten: the shame lies elsewhere...

Mark Oaten should be restored to his front bench position by the next leader of the Liberal Party. Sex between consenting adults is none of our business.......

Wisdom Weasel: Nah, your blog's okay. :)

Recess: That's satire? I bet Iannucci's quaking in his boots.

On Hughes, it is his homophobic campaign agaist Tatchell that makes him a fair target, though my gratitude that Tatchell hasn't been an MP for 20-odd years probably outweighs my ire.

What we have on Ming will have to wait, but it won't bring him down, might even bolster him.

Do you believe Kennedy was in a hard hat, unconscious in his office having shat himself? Do you believe Opik got hit by an asteroid and has be paranoid about them ever since? Do you believe a government minister will quietly get the sack in this week's reshuffle having been cautioned under operation ore?

The pod was satire - no-one complained about it at the time so it's a bit rich to be having a go now my friends.

Actually Ming has - Elspeth (or Lady Macbeth to the ever-imaginative Scottish press) was wheeled out (almost literally) at the Thursday campaign launch. He also kissed her on the steps on his house the day Charles Kennedy resigned. So what you got Monkey - you really the nexus of all Westminster power-play?

Isn't Hughes 'I'm not gay' statements more of a provocation than Oaten's behaviour? Or does he have a right to a private life? Grow the fuck up.

And what better way to hint at this 'well-known but unpublicised and unverified rumour' than to suggest - twice - that the man is a paedophile? Ah yes... context!

Context guys, context!

When GF & I were babbling to our tiny audience, it was a well-known but unpublicised and unverified rumour. In this context, the injudicious and liberal usage of his family stank of rank hypocrisy.

I Ming starts wheeling his wife out in press conferences, we'll do the same to him - But Ming isn't so stupid.

I disagree about American blogs being almost universally shit; but they are universally huge. Maybe you haven't waded through quite enough shit yet to find the good ones.

But I agree about the appalling homophobic aspects of this. I didn't even know what a "rent boy" was when I heard this; I wondered if he perhaps was having an affair with his estate agent. (Americans use the term "prostitute" or "male prostitute" if gender is an issue.)

What's more, why didn't the moral aspects of the Blunkett affair--he had a child with a married woman, who was still married and still apparently having sex with the husband--that's just icky, imo--get the same attention? It was all about the nanny, not the fact he was porking a married woman.

Woman, apparently, being the operative word.

Scott did claim another scalp; Scardino, the news editor of The Guardian also had to go, and I believe that the Aslam affair was quoted as a reason.

Personally, I was happy to see Aslam's departure; I couldn't give two shits about Oaten. But, given that it's out, I do find the whole thing rather amusing though...
