Enthusiasm rekindled?

20 December 2005 15:50

One thing about the sale of The Scotsman is that nationalists have no excuses now. I think The Scotsman now once again counts as an official Scottish newspaper in their eyes (despite the fact that it always was anyway). So we now have a well-known Scottish-owned Scottish newspaper.

The news has woken up the blog Scottish Politics:

At this time of upheaval in Scotland’s newspapers it may be worth reiterating that there is no major newspaper which supports the SNP. Will this change? It could be that this would increase the circulation of whichever newspaper is brave enough to grasp the thistle. Thirty percent of the electorate is a large sector to consistently ignore and their enthusiasm for newspapers may be rekindled if they see a newspaper finally reflecting their views.

Who can remember The Scottish Standard? It brought “a breath of fresh air” — for about three weeks.
