The concept of content being abstracted from location is one begun by this process. The concept of content being abstracted from design is something begun by RSS readers. 

Google Base seems to be an extension of both and a way for Google to augment its information stores in ways that might not currently be served by existing web content, thereby helping it return better information after a search.</description>
