There is lots of news from Honda today.
BAT will pull out of F1 at the end of this year, so Honda will own 100% of BAR. Presumably from next year BAR Honda will just be called Honda F1.
Meanwhile, Honda will be supplying a ‘B’ team in F1 next year… but who? This seems like this is being set up primarily to house Takuma Sato. The reaction to the loss of his BAR seat has been very bad in Japan, with reports that Japanese fans are preparing anti-Jenson Button banners for this weekend’s Japanese Grand Prix — which is held at a circuit that Honda own!
Meanwhile, Sato says he’s received an offer from a new team, but won’t say what the new team is. Even if the new team is receiving Honda backing, having an extra two cars on the grid will be a very welcome sight. If this is separate from Direxiv, there could be 24 cars by 2007!
