[...] Today saw the funeral of Robin Cook, one of the few genuinely likeable and trustworthy politicians around, since, whether you agreed with his politics or not (generally I did), he was always articulate, good at his job, and above all stood up for what he believed in, as Duncan Stephen wrote so well in his blog. I think for a lot of people my age who were against the war in Iraq, Robin Cook’s resignation speech in the House of Commons just before the war began will have been one of the greatest political moments that they have seen so far. The anti-war movement was massive, and Cook became a sort of unofficial figurehead of it. He was far more reasonable, and likeable, than George Galloway. Clare Short, meanwhile, was seen as spineless, in contrast to what was perceived to be the much more principled stance of Cook. Robin Cook was a genuinely powerful voice from the backbenches.
Neither left wing nor right wing actually. Why make a distinction ? On the gnome front I once saw the Health Pixie described as having a lightbulb shaped head and frightening pixie like eyes - would you endorse that view ?

Lovely people post here. It's amazing how many special needs people read your site doctorvee. You must be very proud of your achievements here. Back in the real world, away from blogs, people are allowed to make the odd derogative comment without looney leftie hypocrites damning you to hell. Oh how I laughed.

I should get these comments framed with the header: 'Why the internet should be banned.'

John McCririck is a pompous, flamboyaunt, attention seeking, famous for nothing fool. His remarks at Robin Cookes funeral service highlight to all just how much of a fool this freakish cretin really is. What gives this transvestite lookalike creep the right to draw attention to himself at Robins funeral. His comments were inappropiate, unnecessary and malicious and served nothing other than to overshadow the memory of a great man.

Your a fool John McCririck and the world is laughing at you

John Mccririck has always struck me as a flamboyant pain in the arse. However I admire they man for having the balls to say what a lot of people are thinking - namely that Blair has snubbed the family of Robin Cook because Robin had the temerity to disagree in public with Blairs stance on Iraq. Notice that the much heralded weapons of MD have still not been produced - Blair lied to the population of the UK - never mind bullshit white wash reports to the contrary which insult the intelligence of every one of us. I believed in Blair once but he is a wanker and a bull shit merchant. And his wife looks like her face has been squashed too.

It was Robin Cook who tabled, in 1980, the amendment to Scots law to decriminalise homosexuality in Scotland. Gay people in Scotland will remember him with respect and gratitude.
