The thing people probably find most offensive about Jacques Chirac’s comments about British food is the fact that he still put it above Finnish food.

If he had just said that Britain has the worst food in the world, it would have seemed like a flippant, off-the-cuff remark. But this way it seems like Jacques Chirac has put some thought into this. The man has got a bloody list! And he’s ranked Britain just above Finland!

Has the man not tried our fabulous Chinese takeaways? Has he never bought a Tesco chicken korma? What about our pasta?

And what’s so bad about Finnish food anyway?

  1. Ungrateful sod! Helsinki has a great restaurant called none-other-than ‘Garlic’; and it does what it says on the tin. You’d have thought Chirac would be queuing up outside.

Hmmm, didn’t see what Mad Jacques’ comment had to do with the Olympics at the time. Did remind me of the two comments made in the past that (a) French ‘cuisine’ had been mostly inspired by Turkish chef’s and (b) it was all about sauces anyway. Love to know where the US figured on the MJ’s “cuisine du monde” list, (apologies for high school French) – don’t see fast food being particularly well thought of.
Side issue is that it was great ammunition for the darned anti-Europeans.

  3. Chirac was racist, he only liked the Frech. Thats why British and Finnish food sucked to him, becuase he is and was narrow minded. Just French, and nothing else. He must be good French but a poor European.
