Go to the live section of the At Ease messageboard for some dirty MP3s of the performance of Radiohead’s new song, Arpeggi, at the Ether festival at the weekend. There is also a new version of Where Bluebirds Fly. They’ll probably be on Soulseek or your P2P system of choice by now.

I was unsure whether I should download new Radiohead tracks. The last time I did that it was with the live performances of the tracks on Hail to the Thief. I liked those songs. I found the album itself mediocre — even though I couldn’t stop listening to it?

Anyway, new Radiohead is too tempting not to download. I was more excited about Jonny Greenwood’s new pieces but there you go. Hopefully they will surface at some point aswell.

Arpeggi is great. Very minimalist; it reminds me of Steve Reich, although with those keyboards at the start it sounds more like Mike Oldfield! Radiohead made good use of what I’m presuming is the London Sinfonietta the Nazareth Orchestra there.

Same with Where Bluebirds Fly. There’s some excellent percussion clattering away on that. Brilliant.

‘Where Bluebirds Fly’ is pure trippy likes, will sound cool when its produced and mastered. Arpeggi has a lot of potential too. Hope they dont over-do the songs though. Sound nice and simple!

  2. Where Bluebirds Fly has already been released though! It was a b-side to There There. One of my favourite Radiohead tracks, it’s very cool – but quite different to that live version.

  3. Haven’t heard Arpeggi yet, but I agree with you about the HTTT thing… I downloaded the unmastered tracks about 3 months early and thought they sounded better than the finished versions. The muddy, gloomy mixes kinda suited the songs. I Will was a longer version too, with a better intro.
